OUR QUILT GALLERY - A.K.A. OUR CUSTOMERS' SHOW AND TELL!
Here at Ladyfingers Sewing Studio, we love our customers to bring in quilts for our Show and Tell page! If you live outside the area, feel free to email us a picture with permission to post it on the Website. Nothing is more inspiring than seeing other's beautiful works of heart!
Barbara Khan sent us a picture of her
Sunflower Quilt, which won a third place ribbon for Best Machine
Workmanship at the 2007 Tri State Mancuso show!
Betty Williams hand appliqued this gorgeous Fish Quilt.
It that took First Place at the
West Pasco
Quilt Guild Show in March 2008.
(The quilting was done by Karens
Quilting in Swartz Creek, Michigan.)
Lois Fulton (of Audubon, PA) made this Concerto for Quilters quilt using
Gail's "Beautiful Music" collection. Lois showed the quilt at a local art gallery
where it was a huge favorite. In June, it will be given to her grandson as a
graduation present!
Catherine Bechtel took Gail's
Baltimore Album class many, many years ago. Her
beautiful Baltimore Album Quilt - a true labor of love -
all hand appliqued and hand quilted - was a must for our Show and Tell!
Marie Kirk shows us her fabulous quilt
made from Gail's Jellies Collection.
Rebecca H. - Already a quilter at the age of 10!
Rebecca proudly shows very first quilt -
a Jelly Flannel Fringed quilt that she made in only 3 days!
Susanne Zientarski made this water lily quilt based on Barbara Barber's Leap
Frog pattern. She bought the fabric, designed by Jane Sassaman, at
Ladyfingers on her way to the 2007 Lancaster Quilt Show!
In November, Susanne presented this beautiful quilt to a dear friend as a
wedding present.
The Crazy Quilt of the Century - Made by Marie Cirafesi of Eagleville, PA
Family wedding outfits and Mom's hope chest finds from 1940 and beyond...
Marine emblems and uniform buttons from Dad's service in World War II...
Doll dresses and accessories from 1950's childhood treasures... Snippets of
aprons, hankies and even business clothes that stretched from one decade to
another... These are but a few of the dozens and dozens of treasured
family fabrics and personal memorabilia that I had tucked away in closets
for more than 60 years. Little did I know that my quarter-century
dream of a Crazy Quilt made from them would become reality in the new
millennium thanks to the talents and time of a lifelong friend, quilter and
embroiderer Marie Cirafesi of Eagleville, PA. As the pictures of Marie's
finished work of art proclaim, she blended my lifetime finds into a fabulous
momento for me. She wove together satins, silks, laces and many other
old materials into a marvelous design that not only showcases the crocheting
talents of my mother and other long-gone dears, but also spotlights Marie's
own incredible wizardry with needle and thread. All the needlepoint
flowers and details you see throughout are hers. In keeping with Crazy Quilt
century-old traditions, she detailed the creation with spider and web,
too! Beyond what I provided from my belongings, Marie added other
special embellishments - contributions from 8 true blue "forever friends", including herself. You can see the group of us when we were 16 in a
photo placed right in the middle of the quilt. It's next to one of my
favorite touching poems by Flavia that describes true friends as being woven
into our lives. The quilt is now hanging in a prominent place in my
Arizona home, a constant reminder of the people, places and textures that
have colored my life, as well as the creative, loving friend who blended
them together for me. It's what I call "The Quilt of the Century".
