You'll be using a block from our newest Block of the Month - Garden Party which features PRE-CUT PRE-FUSED shapes to get you to the sewing faster! Bring your own machine or use one of the classroom BERNINA 590's! $65 plus Garden Party kit and supplies Supply List: One kit from the Garden Party BOM If you are NOT doing the entire 12 month block of the month series, you will need to purchase the Garden Party Pattern in addition to the single kit. If you sign up for the entire Block of the Month, the pattern is included. Quilter?s Preview Paper (available at Ladyfingers) Identi-pen marker Sewing machine in good working order - if you would like to reserve a BERNINA 590 from Ladyfingers just let us know! Machine should have knee lift - also known as a free-hand system. Open toed embroidery foot for applique Bernina #20, 20C, or 20D. Can also use Foot 34, 34C, or 34D. If you are using one of Ladyfinger?s machines, a #20 will be supplied. You can bring thread to match your applique colors - but we will be discussing using different weights of threads for different stitches, so you can wait until class day to make your thread selections. Bobbin thread can be 50wt to match your background fabric. Bring some scraps to practice stitches. You can use some scraps from your kit but you will need to bring some fabric for background. Stablizer for the underside of the background fabric. Your block is 20 x 20. I recommend Totally Stable or Rinseaway. Both are available at Ladyfingers Size 80 and 90 Microtex needles. Finish a quilt top and learn all the tips and tricks for doing perfect machine applique. The best way to learn machine applique is to begin on shapes that are large and slightly curving which is why I chose these two designs. And once you have finished one you can move on and create any of the 4 designs included in this pattern. You can change up the designs and create wall hangings or repeat a few designs for a bed quilt. Barbara will be happy to discuss all the possibilities as well as the many fun quilting choices, her specialty.
