Tiger Melon, Tiger Moon

Tiger Melon, Tiger Moon
Sarah Bond

This is a brand new class! We will be paper piecing two classic shapes. The melon shape in the quilt below and also a round form. Each has these tapered stripes that allow you to experiment with colors and fabric, dark and light, sun and shadow. I will provide a pattern that will include the oval and round shapes as well as the shoulder pieces that will make up the
background, and border options. The resulting block can be set in an unconventional configuration as in the quilt below, or in a more traditional grid to showcase your fabric choices. Either way, you will design your own piece, from table topper to baby or lap size throw or a full bed sized quilt.

What to bring:
Tools & supplies: You should bring basic sewing supplies and your sewing machine in good working order. Basic sewing supplies should include spare needles for your machine, thread, pins, rotary cutter and a small mat. Paper and pen for taking notes or sketching

Fabrics: Bring fabrics with high contrasts. If you are feeling adventurous, you can bring some bold, large scale prints or stripes to contrast with solids or blenders. Bring a variety of fabrics for experimenting, or, if you have a particular color scheme in mind, bring that. Bring
something to use for your background. The quilt on the left, with lots of negative space, took
between four and five yards of fabric. A quilt with more pieced blocks will require less background fabric.

Bring your creativity and imagination. The possibilities are endless!
